Omagh Enhanced Hospital

The new Omagh enhanced hospital is set on a brown field site adjacent to the existing Tyrone Fermanagh complex.  All departments are spread over three floors and will include urgent care and specialist nursing, GP, renal ward, children’s ward, outpatients, clinical investigation, imaging, pharmacy, distribution, day surgery, dentistry, Woman’s Health Clinical wards, CSSD and an energy centre. External areas will consist of staff and visitors parking, play areas, viewing gardens and a Heli pad for emergency services.

The electrical scope of works for the new hospital involves HV & LV switchgear and generator installation, backbone containment, lightning protection, general, external and emergency lighting, mechanical services wiring, UPS/IPS and systems installations including fire/critical alarms, access control / intruder system and staff attack systems.


Altnagelvin Hospital – Radiotherapy Unit

We are currently onsite on the Radiotherapy project at Altnagelvin Hospital.  The  new build unit will consist of a 6 floor structure with services, a plant area, car parking for staff and patients, ambulance drop of point, Electrical LV and HV rooms, a new Radiotherapy unit with Linear Accelerators and MRI scanner, refurbished and extended Chemotherapy area, Radiotherapy Bed area, admin area and roof top plant rooms.


Merseycare TIME Project

Client: Liverpool & Sefton Health Partnership

The complex design and build project involved the replacement of an existing site deemed old and unfit for Mersey Care NHS Trust’s vision in tackling mental health.

The new modern, mental health in-patient facilities, offers 85 ensuite bedroom accommodation over Psychological ICU, Older Adult and Dementia wards, with 24hr access to safe outside space and activity/ therapy areas.

Other facilities in each unit will include office accommodation and interview rooms for the access/ acute care teams and crisis resolution home treatment teams, occupational therapy and activity spaces, learning and education spaces, family rooms, spiritual healthcare space and social enterprise cafe.

The electrical contract involved the installation of advanced technology including CHP system, BMS system, energy metering systems, high level lighting controls, L1 Fire System and advance security features including access control, IP based CCTV, Intercom systems and state-of-the-art nurse call / staff attack system.


Finnebrogue Factory Refurbishment & Extension

Dowds Group were entrusted by artisan food producer Lynn’s Country Foods to design and build the complete M&E services in their new state of the art food manufacturing facility at their plant in Finnebrogue, Down Business Park Downpatrick.

The new factory has been built on a 6 acre site, a project that comprised the conversion and extension of an existing 1069m2 warehouse, increasing the building to 3700m2 during phase one and then further extended under phase two, the completion of which sees the factory standing at a staggering 14,500m2.

The building now provides Finnebrogue with process mix rooms, production halls, equipment wash rooms, cold rooms, chilled storage, dry goods storage, spice prep, engineering workshops, automated packing and warehousing, a complete energy centre housing load centre, mechanical plant, hot water generation plant (with. heat recovery) and chiller plant plus full administration and technical support office and staff changing facilities.


Craigavon Area Hospital

Dowds Group started work on the £9.6m Craigavon Hospital Framework in 2009, initially completing the provision of a new Trauma and Orthopaedic Unit. The new three storey unit included a total of 33 beds together with two dedicated laminar flow theatre units along with various support, recovery and office accommodation.  We also completed electrical works on the Maternity Unit extension which provided six new delivery suites, refurbished the existing four and added a four bedded induction ward and three bedded recovery ward completed over nine phases.  Running concurrently with maternity installation we worked closely with the consultants and hospital engineers to complete critical upgrades to the hospital infrastructure. This included a complete new Data & Telephone Network, a new Fire Alarm Network and a new electrical Infrastructure Low Voltage Ring.

In addition, we provided a complete electrical installation of 2 new buildings (PICU and ALDAU) which were constructed at each end of the existing Bluestone unit, including new switchgear and sub-mains cabling and full integration of systems between the new and existing buildings.  A major component of the contract was the CHP installation, this involved the supply, connection and commissioning of a new 1200 KWE CHP unit to the existing stores energy centre building, with new switchboards and submains cabling to allow the CHP unit to be integrated onto the trusts site-wide LV network.


Old See House

Old See House is a mental health facility which brings together a consulting facility and an eight bedroom short-stay residential section, designed to meet anti-ligature standards.  The electrical services installed as part of the project included supply and distribution (main switchboard), cabling and containment systems, lift installation, lighting, lighting control, emergency lighting, external lighting, fire alarm systems, IT/Telecoms, CCTV System, access control system, intruder alarm system, video door entry system, staff call system, disabled refuge alarm system, lightning protection and TV Distribution system.

The Rosie Perinatal Unit

We were tasked with the complete M & E works on this 7,968sq.m facility. It comprises of of 10 birthing suites, a 28 cot Critical Care Neo-natal intensive care unit, a 30 bed sick childrens birthing unit all with complex services including dual medical gas and power systems, a MRI unit and 10 birthing pool suites together with Fetal Medicine and Day Assessment Units.


Aurora Pool & Leisure Complex

The 15,374sq.m facility included the Olympic sized 10 lane swimming pool incorporating two moveable floating floors and two submersible booms, a 25m diving pool, a themed family fun area including a wave pool, water slides, flumes, interactive water play features and bubble pools, a health and fitness suite, a conditioning suite, an 8 court main sports hall, a cafe, 2 function rooms, a minor sports hall, 2 squash courts, a creche, children’s soft play area, changing facilities for 6 outdoor football pitches.


U.U. Belfast Arts College

The initial phase was a 6 storey extension of the Warwick building which houses the university’s school of arts, including new lecture theatres, auditoriums, teaching rooms & display areas. The successful completion of this phase was proved when the client trusted us with subsequent follow on phases, including a floor-by-floor refurbishment of the 6 storey Orpheus building which is the centre for performing arts and a full refurbishment of the Students Union.
