Mechanical Bid Manager (London)


We are seeking a focused, organised and experienced Mechanical Bid Manager to join our Pre-Construction team based in our new Kings Cross London office. The Bid Manager will work alongside our Design Managers, Estimators and Operations to assemble a bid team with the relevant service and business knowledge required to prepare a winning bid, whilst taking ownership of the end-to-end bid process

Our projects within the business are allocated a Bid Manager, to own the project from tender, whilst developing through the PCSA stage, working hand in hand with our M&E design managers, external sub-consultants and supply chain to drive out risk, drive up margin and ensure our clients receive Dowds' renowned top quality service. 

The Role:

  • To oversee the bid team and manage the bid qualification process for new opportunities as well as identifying and driving out risk
  • Work effectively with the bid team using commercial expertise to provide appropriate challenge and support
  • Delivering pre-construction services within financial constraints to meet business plan objectives
  • Preparing and reviewing the commercial aspects of the bid, ensuring all services are included in the final price to the customer
  • To develop and manage bids in line with an agreed project plan and to ensure all deadlines are met
  • Ensure design strategy is in place, risk analysed & summarised as well as timeframes achieved
  • Ensure all bids are subject to correct adjudication and governance procedures
  • Support project QS and Senior QS on contractual engagement and ensuring scope is as per works
  • Monthly reporting on workflow forecasts & bid trend analysis information
  • Monitor, update & produce approvals
  • Ensure the bid team adheres to defined governance, correct adjudication & bid management processes & adequately hands over successful bids to delivery teams
  • Develop, lead, manage & maintain a bid team to meet business unit objectives
  • Defined bid experience & exposure to multi procurement & contract types

Person Specification:

  • Commercially / Financially astute with a key eye for numbers
  • Suitable industry-based qualification i.e. HNC/RICS
  • People management, leadership and strong negotiation experience
  • Demonstrable experience in a variety of forms of contract – NEC & JCT
  • Strong computer literacy, including knowledge of estimating systems
  • Ability to prioritise remain focused and work under pressure to deadline
  • Ability to delegate and organise workloads of self and others
  • Multi-task working across more than one project at any one time (dependant on value)
  • Proven relationships with clients and ability to build new
  • Excellent communication skills and understand how to deliver positive and difficult news to clients
  • Key attention to detail
  • Written communications and ability to manage client relationships
  • Ability to quickly establish good working relationships at all levels
