Dowds Group successfully delivered a sophisticated £4.5M M&E package as part of the transformational £24M courtyard redevelopment at the Royal College of Music (RCM). This high-profile project created two state-of-the-art performance venues and a permanent new home for the RCM Museum, housing one of the world’s most significant collections of historic musical instruments.

The redevelopment focused on enhancing the RCM’s South Kensington campus with world-class facilities. Dowds’ scope involved the full end-to-end management of MEP services – from initial strip-out to final commissioning. The project delivered two multi-functional performance spaces, cutting-edge digital recording studios, and additional practice and teaching rooms. Beyond the acoustic and educational spaces, the installation supported new communal audience areas, including a premium café-bar and restaurant. A critical technical requirement was the integration of a Building Energy Management System designed to maintain rigorous humidity and climate controls.
