Dowds Group are currently delivering a £14m MEP installation at 105 Judd Street, in collaboration with McLaughlin & Harvey. The project involves the comprehensive refurbishment and modernisation of an existing commercial building into a high-performance lab research facility. The complex scope is being executed within a constrained, historically sensitive urban environment over an 11-month programme.

Dowds are overseeing the MEP upgrades for a SMART ready system, installing energy-efficient HVAC systems, upgraded power distribution, pre-wired lighting, life safety systems, and modernised public health services. To overcome severe central London logistics and high-traffic bottlenecks, the delivery strategy is to shift physical complexity offsite to a controlled factory floor. Cloud Point Surveys and Autodesk Revit models are converted into fabrication-ready CADmep models to build intricate service modules offsite under a strict multi-stage gateway. These engineered vertical risers integrate structural steel, multi-tier ductwork, pre-wired lighting, and populated distribution boards – effectively eliminating traditional sequential handovers and heavily de-risking the on-site installation phase. This shifts the programme risk away from a constrained London site, giving the team controlled conditions to deliver a highly technical life sciences installation on time.
