Grand Central Station, Belfast

Dowds Group successfully delivered a landmark £15M MEP package for the prestigious £340M Belfast Grand Central Station. As the largest integrated transport hub in Ireland, this multi-modal facility serves as a world-class gateway to the city.

Marking Dowds’ inaugural entry into the transportation sector, the project involved the comprehensive design and installation of mechanical and electrical services across vast concourse spaces and rail infrastructure. The scope included full low voltage distribution and switchgear, a sophisticated security package and high-efficiency Air Handling Unit and Air Conditioning systems. To align with modern sustainability and passenger experience goals, the team installed a 700kW roof-mounted PV array and integrated advanced Customer Information Screens providing real-time travel schedules. The project required a massive scale-up of resources, with Dowds managing a workforce of 150 operatives and over 100 suppliers. By maintaining a high-intensity collaboration with the Farrans-Sacyr JV, Dowds ensured that this complex, multi-modal hub was delivered to the highest technical and safety standards.
