Old Gramophone Works

Dowds Group successfully delivered a comprehensive Mechanical and Electrical Cat A fit-out for Old Gramophone Works, a 65,000 sq. ft. contemporary workspace in London. This ambitious refurbishment transformed a 100-year-old building into a BREEAM Excellent five-storey workspace, using Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) to extend the original concrete structure upwards, making it London’s tallest CLT building at the time of completion in 2022.

The project included a vibrant shared reception space, a canal-side café, modern WCs, and dedicated basement bike storage. Architecturally, the building celebrates its heritage through exposed CLT and concrete columns, requiring an M&E installation that complemented the aesthetic without compromising performance. The result is a building that embraces its industrial roots while meeting the demands of a modern, sustainable workplace.
