Altnagelvin Hospital Framework

Dowds delivered comprehensive M&E engineering for two landmark developments at Altnagelvin Hospital: the North West Cancer Centre and the North Wing Extension. Together, these projects transformed the acute campus, delivering advanced radiotherapy infrastructure alongside significant new ward capacity.

Dowds was appointed to supply and install comprehensive engineering services for this complex multi-storey development. Our team delivered the critical infrastructure for 144 adult single-bed rooms, including specialist isolation wards and a high-dependency Renal Dialysis Suite. Crucially, the new facility also provides ground-floor treatment rooms housing 4 linear accelerator bunkers, MRI and CT scanner suites, and plain x-ray facilities, supported by first and second-floor offices and respite care. Beyond the new build, Dowds executed technical refurbishments within the existing Chemotherapy Suite and Tower Block, alongside the M&E fit-out of a new underground car park. The project required the heavy engineering of basement plantrooms and service tunnels, necessitating precise coordination of high-density services through confined distribution routes.
