Theatre 8, Ulster Hospital

Acting as Principal Contractor, Dowds Group transformed a former endoscopy unit into Northern Ireland’s new Regional Plastic Surgery Service for the South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust. This £1.8m turnkey project delivered a state-of-the-art operating theatre and recovery suite, meeting critical clinical demands during the height of the global pandemic.

Dowds managed the full project lifecycle, from extensive demolition and structural supports to the installation of Northern Ireland’s first fully integrated theatre control panel. The comprehensive fit-out included new partition walls, specialised flooring, and fixed clinical furniture, all finished to high-specification surgical standards. To support the theatre’s specialised requirements, our teams commissioned a new Level 3 electrical switch room and a dedicated rooftop ventilation plant. By integrating high-spec mechanical and electrical systems with precision internal works, we delivered a complex, “theatre-ready” facility prepared for immediate clinical occupancy.
