Dowds is proud to announce the successful completion of a solar PV installation across two key Northern Ireland Hospice sites: Somerton Road Adult Hospice in Belfast and NI Children’s Hospice, Newtownabbey.
Delivered in collaboration with The FCM Partnership, Perdix Consulting and the dedicated Estates Team at Northern Ireland Hospice, the project represents a significant investment in sustainable infrastructure and supports the Hospice’s long-term environmental and financial objectives. The newly installed solar PV systems are expected to make a substantial impact by reducing electricity costs and lowering carbon emissions by approximately 42,000kg annually. By generating renewable energy on-site, the installations will help Northern Ireland Hospice improve operational efficiency while reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.
Northern Ireland Hospice provides exceptional care and support to patients and families across the region, and Dowds was honoured to play a role in helping the organisation enhance the sustainability of its facilities.
Giving Back Beyond the Project
Following the completion of the solar PV installation, a team of 11 Dowds employees volunteered their time to support the Hospice in a different capacity. The group undertook a rejuvenation project across several private patio spaces, removing existing planting, replanting beds and donating plants and decorative stone to create peaceful outdoor environments for patients and their families.
While modest in comparison to the invaluable care provided by the Hospice every day, the initiative reflects Dowds’ commitment to supporting the communities in which it works and giving back to organisations that make a meaningful difference across Northern Ireland.
